So, a daily routine has been established. For the most part, this is how it goes:
6:30am - guides wake us up with morning coffee/tea
6:50am - guides bring bowls of hot water for our “washie washie”
7:30am - breakfast, usually consisting of hot porridge, bread, and eggs of some kind
8:00am - head out on hike
Once we reach camp:
around 4:00pm - afternoon tea and snack
6:30pm - dinner, then debriefing of next day’s hike
The food has been pretty good on this hike. Dinner always starts with some kind of soup. We’ve had mushroom, chicken, and carrot soup so far. We’ve also had potatoes, rice, fish, and chicken.
Today’s morning hike was short - about two hours until we reached camp. We had lunch, then took an afternoon acclimatization hike up to Little Lent Hill (which actually wasn’t so little!). It was a good, challenging hike up some steep areas. The terrain has changed quite a bit. We’ve crossed the plains and it has become more mountainous. I feel like we are trekking more than before. Though we definitely are getting closer, the mountain still seems a ways off! We’ve been really lucky so far and had perfect weather while hiking - sunny and pleasant - though it’s still very cold when the sun goes down! The campsite we’re at now apparently isn’t visited very often, so it’s very tidy. It’s also very quiet here. I’m just sitting on a rock, writing and taking it all in.
